The History

For over a century, the Beckendorff family (Colvin Ag) has been rooted
in the rich soils of Texas, cultivating rice with care, tradition, and pride.
Our story began in 1918, when the first generation of Beckendorffs
started farming in Waller County, laying the foundation for what would
become a legacy of hard work, dedication, and family values.

Today, as the fourth generation, we continue that
tradition with fields spanning from Brookshire and Pattison to Sealy
and throughout Wharton County
. Each growing season is a reminder of our
deep connection to the land and the generations that came before us.

Now, the next chapter of our story is being written by the fifth
generation
—our sons, Cameron and Kasen—who have joined the
operation, carrying forward the same passion that has defined our family for
over 100 years.

Farming isn’t just our livelihood—it’s our legacy. From seed
to harvest, every acre represents the history and heart of the Beckendorff
family.

And just as our farming traditions have been passed down
through the generations, so have our family recipes. One of our favorites is Judy
Beckendorff Shields’ Green Chili Rice Casserole
—a comforting dish that
celebrates both our love for rice and the flavors of Texas home cooking.

From our family to yours—welcome to the Beckendorff
family story, where tradition runs deep and every grain tells a part of our
history.

This rice was proudly grown at our Five Corners Farm in Wharton County, Texas. It was planted on March 21, 2025, and harvested on July 29, 2025.

Why We Share These Stories

When we send rice to recipe creators, chefs, and social media partners, we want them to understand exactly where this rice comes from and who grows it.

This isn’t anonymous grain.

It’s Texas-grown, Texas-milled (soon), and Texas-proud.

It’s the result of men and women like Johnny, Cameron and Kasen —people who started with nothing but a dream, a rented tractor, and a work ethic strong enough to build a life from the ground up.

Honestly Texas Rice is honored to work with the farmers from this historic region and to share their rice with families across our state.

From our farmers to your family—this is Texas rice done right.
